Tips to protect your equipment from Lightning.
This is my personal opinion getting from basic information to protect equipment from lightning surge.

Voltage protection level and Impulse Durabilty are important items to select SPD for signal lines. There are big 4 categories (A, B, C, D) and have sub categories in some of them. Test with category C is essential for both tests and test of other category is a option.
IEC: Impulse limiting Voltage
Apply impulse selected from cotegory C, 5 tiems between the terminal X1-C and X2-C both positive and negative polarities.
It is Ok to apply both X1-C and X2-C at the same time or apply eath terminal separatly. Test between the terminal X1-X2 is option. You can also do additoinal test selected othe categories.
IEC: Impulse Durabilty
Apply impusle selected from cotegory C between the terminal X1-C and X2-C. Half of it is using positive impulse and remain times is using negative impulse.
Test between the terminal X1-X2 is option. You can also do additoinal test selected the other categories.
Ctegory C1, C2 seem siluated induced surge current which may repeatedly come in and number of applying times is relativly big numbers(half of them are positive and remain is Negative). D1 is sumilated lightning current(direct strike) and then number of test is total 2 times(one positive and negative impusle). There is no description about interval of impulse, but indicate to proceed test with confirmation that SPD does not heat up during the test.

Impusle limiting voltage:

Impusle Durabilty：
Apply impusle selected from cotegory C between the terminal X1-C and X2-C. Half of it isusing positive impusle and remain times is using negative impusle.
