This is my personal opinion getting from basic information to protect equipment from lightning surge.

There are many test items of SPD for low voltage lines in IEC standard. Voltage protection level using simulated induced current and opeartion duty test are important indicators to evaluate performacen of SPD.
Operation Duty test
Durabilty using simulated surge current
This test will be done for Class 1 and 2 SPD. Smulated surge current will be implied total 15, 5 times x 3.
The current impluse applies at angle 0 at first. wait a bout 1 min and apply again adding 30 deg. Repeat this total 5 times
and repeat 3 times.
Make sure that SPD does not affect by the test.
This used to be called " Pre-conditioning test".
Addional Operation Duty Test
Performance using simulated impulse current
This test will be done just for class 1 SPD.
The positive current impulse will be applied at the peak of commercial current
and wait 15 min. Change peak value of the impulse is changed to following step. Iimp X 0.1, X0.25, X 0.5, X 0.75, X1.0.
Make sure that SPD does not affect by the test.
